ITU BioMedTek Laboratories, which was established in Istanbul Technical University with the support of Istanbul Development Agency (IDA), opened to analyze biosimilar drugs, biomaterial products and medical devices for diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The opening program of ITU BioMedTek Laboratory was held at Ayazağa Campus of Istanbul Technical University. Özgül Özkan Yavuz, Secretary General of IDA, also attended to the programme. As Istanbul Development Agency, Yavuz emphasized that local producers have given particular importance to the development of domestic technologies for sustainable growth in each area. "We have supported the BioMedTek project for R&D activities in the field of health, increasing technology and knowledge and training of the experts."
Özgül Özkan Yavuz, who received information from the project executives about the work of the laboratory, later visited the center with vice rector of ITU Prof. Dr. Alper Ünal.
The project "Establishment of the Biological Characterization Laboratory for the Analysis of Medical Devices, Biomarker and Biotechnology Products" was made under the scope of Istanbul Development Agency's (IDA) 2016 Innovative and Creative Istanbul Financial Support Program. Total budget of 1 million 679 thousand Turkish Lira 88 percent of it contributed by IDA.
In the ITU BioMedetek Laboratories, which received permission to work by the Ministry of Agriculture Experimental Animal Laboratories, companies producing bioenergetics or biomolecules will be able to investigate the products for diagnosis and treatment of diseases and medical device manufacturers will be able to investigate their devices on living organisms. They will be able to carry out the biological analyzes they need in the registration phase. ITU BioMedTek will contribute to the research and production of biomedical products and medical device design.
Since 2010, the Istanbul Development Agency has supported a total of 287 projects with 13 Financial Support Programs covering R&D and innovation studies. The amount of resources transferred for the work carried out in this area reached to 201 million liras.
