The medicinal and aromatic plants in Turkey used in medicine, cosmetics and food industries by the help of Bezmiâlem Phytotherapy Research Center that was established with the support of the Istanbul Development Agency.
Founded in Bezm-i Alem Foundation University, Turkey's Council of Higher Education approved first Phytotherapy Center visited by Istanbul Development Agency Secretary General Özgül Özkan Yavuz and Bezmi-i Alem University Rector Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu. Özgül Özkan Yavuz and Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu observed the herbal medicines and cosmetic products produced during the R&D work, which was accompanied by the CNN Türk news team.
Rümeyza Kazancıoğlu, the Rector of the Bezm-i Alem University, informs about the studies carried out in the center. "Here we analyze natural plants, how can raw materials and products sold in shops be really plants and their analysis can be done here. We are trying to find out and research a number of plant products related to medicines or hormones used especially in the treatment of cancer, from heart diseases to kidney diseases "she said. Özgül Özkan Yavuz, Secretary General of the Istanbul Development Agency, said "The target of the center is to get a share from world pharmaceutical sector, which is worth 100 billion dollars. When we do our research and build our productions on it, we will be in domestic production process and we will produce more value added product here. We have the potential in herbal sense, our research centers, our strongest capacities, and we have the potential to make it through production, so why not make our own medicines, cosmetics". In the Bezmiâlem Phytotherapy Education Research and Application Center, more than 500 plants are processed. The raw materials used by food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical companies; volatile and fixed oil analyzes, vegetable extracts, auxiliary substances and active substance analyzes are carried out to determine the quality of their products and raw materials. For this purpose, 98 companies have been analyzed in the last 1 year. Liquid extracts are also produced from plants. At the same time, in the field of phytotherapy, certificate training, workshops and conferences are held for physicians, pharmacists and health workers.
