The technical workshop of organ donation and transplantation was held within the scope of "International Organ Transplant Center Network (ITN)" that was conducted by Turkey Organ Transplant Foundation through Istanbul Development Agencies’ guided project support.
To the workshop, which brought together 67 experts from 25 countries, Turkey Organ Transplantation Foundation President Eyup Kahveci, Organ Transplant Coordinators Yavuz Selim Çinar and Istanbul Development Agency Secretary General Özkan Yavuz attended.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Özgül Özkan Yavuz said that the "International Organ Transplant Network Center" project is an exemplary international cooperation project with the its economic and human dimensions. Yavuz said, "Istanbul has become a global center in all aspects such as finance, culture, trade, etc. Istanbul, which is the regional leader in the health industry and especially in organ transplantation, is also on its way to becoming a global center. We have a large number of hospitals, highly skilled doctors and highly educated health personnel. The project aims to establish a network among working teams related to organ transplantation in 70 countries. The priority target is Istanbul to be the training center of this network. We will be exporting both education and health services with the project." Turkey Organ Transplantation Foundation chairman Eyüp Kahveci also said that marrow bone, face, arms, implementation of many transplants such as cornea can be transplanted in more than 150 centers in Turkey. "Turkey has top rankings in kidney and liver transplantation. We are the country with the most experience in the world in live kidney transplant. In liver transplant, Turkey is maintaining its place with South Korea for several years. In alive donor liver and kidney transplant Turkey has much to teach the world. " he said. During the three-day workshop, the need for organ donation and organ transplant services in the participating countries was analyzed and priorities identified. An action plan was developed within the scope of technical assistance and international cooperation. On the last day of the program, hospital visits were made to improve the competitive advantage of Istanbul on the international scene in health tourism.
